Lil Wayne – 'Lollipop'

Lil Wayne – 'Lollipop'

T-Wayne Carter III returns with an utterly pedestrian club-love hit that would tire even diehard fans of the yawnsome sub-genre. 'Lollipop' is well produced, if by "well produced" you mean “cynically thrown together with predictable beats and vocals treated with massively annoying auto-tune effects”. But really, Wayne, who are you kidding? The last person to write a decent tune that incessantly went on about being in the "club" was 50 Cent, a full six years ago. Come back when you've got a semblance of an original idea. Until then, the campaign to kick the words “love” and “club” out of tepid r’n’b tracks starts here.

Sara Bareilles – 'Love Song'

Sara Bareilles – 'Love Song'

Meet Sara Bareilles. A US singer-songwriter with track called 'Love Song', which, rather cunningly, is all about not writing a love song. Armed with a piano, she comes across as a watered-down Regina Spektor, but she hasn't really earned such a comparison, so we'll settle for saying she's more like a female Daniel Powter. Ouch. It's fluffy radio-friendly stuff and as far as piano ballads go, it's pretty catchy, but let's not go crazy here. Bareilles had better have a couple more tricks up her sleeve or this first showing could easily be her last.
